BJ McDougal, Director of Music and Worship

BJ McDougal, Director of Music and Worship

BJ McDougal has served Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church as Director of Music and Worship since the summer of 2001, having been in full time music ministry since 1988.  He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in sacred music from Houston Baptist University and a Masters Degree in Performance in choral conducting from The University of Houston.  BJ has served in several churches in Texas, as well as one in Erie, Pennsylvania.

As Director of Music and Worship at Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church, BJ’s vision in service is to lead others to draw near to God so that God will draw near to them (James 4:8).  Worship of the Almighty God is at the heart of what BJ strives for in ministry.

As a musical director, BJ has worked with choirs and orchestras.  He enjoys the beauty of the choral and orchestral music and blending the contemporary with the traditional in worship is something BJ does particularly well.  His services reflect the modern to very classical.  Easter and Christmas productions that feature choir, orchestra and soloists are a major part of what BJ works on each year and the performance of  Messiah at Christ Presbyterian has become a Houston tradition.  In addition to special and seasonal musicals, BJ stays busy with the week to week duties as Music Director.

McDougal has also served as musical director for the Cameron Community Theater in which he directed productions of Nunsense, Nunsense II and South Pacific.  Recently he had the opportunity to sing with Choral Artists, under the direction of Dr. Charles Hausmann, performing such works as Mass In B Minor, Rejoice in the Lamb, The Peaceable Kingdom, Chichester Psalms, The Hymn of Jesus, and Flos Campi.  In 2003 he traveled with the Houston Symphony Chorus to Mexico City to sing in the 25th anniversary of the Symphony Orchestra of Minería.
