3-Part Strategy

We have identified a three-part process for spiritual formation in the life of CEPC: Worship, City Groups, and Sunday School, each of which is to be infused with a strong missional element calling for commitments of time, energy and resources on the part of each member of the body.

Worship

  1. Worship is the first part of spiritual formation in the life of every believer at CEPC.
  2. As a church we reaffirm our commitment to worship that is: “Focused on God, grounded in scripture, empowered by prayer, active in participation, and biblically relevant to our culture.” (1999 Masterplan)
  3. As a church we reaffirm our commitment to worship that is: “Focused on God, grounded in scripture, empowered by prayer, active in participation, and biblically relevant to our culture.” (1999 Masterplan)

City Groups

  1. City Group participation is to be the second part in the spiritual formation track at CEPC. Every member and regular attender at our church will be encouraged toward City Group participation.
  2. Our goal is to see City Groups to develop organically out of the life of the body and be as geographically diverse as our congregation and as multi-generational as our congregation. We will continually foster new City Group initiatives so that every member, including children and youth, may feasibly participate in a City Group in their community.
  3. The primary place for missional focus is in the City Group venue. Therefore every City Group should meaningfully engage each member of the group in “renewing redemptive passion” and the group as a team in advancing/serving Christ’s broader kingdom in word and deed.
  4. Elder involvement in City Groups is essential since City Groups are our primary means for renewing redemptive passion in the body.

Sunday School

  1. We recommend that adult Sunday School in general, and each adult class in particular, be viewed as the third part of spiritual formation in the life of our church, providing the principle venue in which equipping and training takes place.
  2. The equipping element of adult Sunday School is intended to prepare members to advance Kingdom priorities with hearts filled with redemptive passion. In the same way, ministries to children and youth are encouraged to utilize curricula that promote redemptive passion in their hearts and lives. Sunday School shall be one forum for celebrating missions in the life of our church and for developing and encouraging a lifestyle of personal evangelism.
