In 1991, 469 people left their church home to form Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Those people, together with 125 others, first worshipped together as a new church family on April 7, 1991 at T. H. Rogers Middle School. Read more about our history.
To be Presbyterian is to be governed according to the pattern of elders seen in the Old and New Testaments. Biblically-qualified elders are recognized through congregational election and, along with ministers, rule the church corporately. In turn, the individual churches send representatives to meetings of churches in their geographical area called a Presbytery, and that body is overseen by a meeting to which all the churches send representatives called the General Assembly.
To be “Evangelical” means to believe in the importance of sharing the good news that through Jesus Christ the kingdom of God has been inaugurated, freeing people from the guilt and power of sin through personal faith and repentance. Evangelical Christians also stress the importance of biblical authority. We believe that the Bible is the word of God written, and that it is, therefore, infallible and inerrant in the original autographs.
Our worship services provide a blended style that incorporates the traditional as well as the contemporary. Through the use of choir, orchestra, praise band, worship teams, solos, ensembles, and drama, our intent is to lead those attending or participating in leadership in a fresh and meaningful experience with God. The goal is for all to draw near to the heart of God and allow worship to strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ.
Children’s Ministries seeks to create an environment that is engaging to children and adults, where meaningful relationships are developed, and where the Bible is taught as true and relevant. Sunday School, Children’s Worship, Kids on the Rock, monthly Parents’ Nights Out, and bi-monthly MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meetings are great opportunities for children to enjoy time with friends and loving adults, while learning the truth of Christ’s love for them. The Inquirers’ Class is a great way to learn more about our church, our beliefs, and salvation through Jesus Christ. This six-week class taught during the Sunday School hour is a requirement for anyone interested in joining the church, and is open to anyone wanting to know more about our church and what we believe. The first step towards membership at Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church is your acceptance of Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. The second step is completing the Inquirers’ Class, taught during the Sunday School hour. This class is also open to anyone wanting to know more about our church and what we believe. Baptism is a sign and seal of God’s covenant by which a person is admitted into the visible church. In the case of an adult or child, baptism looks back to the time when God’s covenant was fulfilled in his life and he became a believer in Jesus Christ. In the case of an infant, it represents looking forward to the time when God’s covenant promise will be fulfilled in his life and he will receive Christ as Savior. Baptism represents the washing away of our sins, in one case as a present reality and in the other as a future reality; it is not necessary for salvation but is an important sacrament representing the remission of sins through Christ’s atoning blood.
