WOW Bible Study 2016-17: 1st & 2nd Corinthians

Corinth was located on a major trade route where material goods of every kind were readily available for its wealthy and prosperous citizens to enjoy, drawing people of every nationality and culture to enjoy all the city had to offer. It was an athletic center in which some of the great competitions of that day were held annually. It was also an educational center where the finest minds could be developed and challenged. This cosmopolitan city was known far and wide – for its opportunities, its luxuries, its indulgences, all those things which make up “the good life.” Yet it was also known for its widespread moral corruption and decadence. Is it sounding more and more like Houston, Texas, and other big cities today? That is why the Apostle Paul’s words to the Corinthian church have special significance and importance for us in 2016 because what goes on in the city, inevitably affects the church. And, more importantly, the church exists to influence the city and its people!
